Do I need to remove the ToeGrips® dog nail grips for nail trims?

We recommend removing the grips before nail trims and replacing them after. There are several benefits to this:

  • Because the nail grows from the nail bed rather than the tip, you will not be able to trim them without pushing the ToeGrips® dog nail grips up the nails. Pulling the ToeGrips® dog nail grips back down into the GripZoneTM after the nail trim is much more challenging than working them into proper position when applying.
  • Sometimes trimming the nail through the grip results in a hook at the bottom of the nail that prevents the ToeGrip® dog nail grip from resting in the GripZoneTM and/or keeps the material from hitting the floor before the nails, which is what enables traction.
When you replace the ToeGrips® dog nail grips after a nail trim, you can rotate them—putting a “fresh” section in the GripZoneTM. Doing this will make your dog’s ToeGrips last longer!

      Hi Lisa,
To remove ToeGrips, you stabilize the toe and slowly work the sides down with your fingernail. Alternate sides as you try to roll/slide the grips down off the tip of the nail. Here is a link to a video that may offer additional insight: How to remove ToeGrips

          Hi Ashlee,
This is a great question! The process of removing ToeGrips that have been glued on is about the same as for those applied without glue. Here is a link to our page that discusses all aspects of using glue with ToeGrips (the 3rd video down is what you are looking for): https://toegrips.com/how-to-glue/
Thank you for bringing up this important topic and I hope this will help. If you have any other questions or concerns don’t hesitate to reach out to our expert customer care team at: [email protected]
