Julie Buzby DVM, CAVCA, CVA August 10, 2018 Leave a Comment

Lyme disease is something you’ve probably heard of many times, and perhaps even have a friend or family member who suffers from it. But how much do you know about Lyme disease in dogs?

From the origin of the name to stats on exposure in the United States for both dogs and humans, Dr. Buzby covers many facets of this disease in this episode. Most importantly, perhaps, is prevention. She details both the present and future of vaccinations for dogs and humans and recommends one type of vaccination exclusively for the most complete coverage for your dog.

Julie Buzby DVM, CAVCA, CVA August 3, 2018 Leave a Comment

When you hear “Tick Borne Disease” you almost definitely think “Lyme Disease”. And while that’s the most prevalent and perhaps dangerous disease introduced by ticks to our pets and ourselves, it’s not the only danger.

In the NEXT episode, we’re taking a deep dive into Lyme Disease with some great new information that Dr. Buzby can’t wait to share, but this week we’re highlighting and discussing a range of illnesses that can be directly traced to your dogs exposure to ticks.

Ear Infections in Dogs — Taking a Trip Down the “Ear-rie” Canal

Julie Buzby DVM, CAVCA, CVA July 27, 2018 2 Comments

Otitis isn’t a fear of soul singer Otis Redding, it’s the technical term for “ear infection” or inflammation of the ear, and in this episode it’s the focus of the Buzby Dog Podcast.

Dr. Buzby shares the most common causes of infection in your dog’s ears, the symptoms to look for and how to respond when you see there’s an issue. From allergies, to foreign objects to the perpetuating factors that prevent your dog from healing, this episode will prepare you for all the ear-ventualities.

Lost Pet Prevention & Preparation with Lorien Clemens from PetHub

Julie Buzby DVM, CAVCA, CVA July 20, 2018 Leave a Comment

Never let your pet go naked! That’s just one of the excellent tips you’ll learn from Lorien Clemens on how to ensure your pet does not get lost, and if they do, how to ensure a swift return home.

Lorien is the “Producer of Pawsome” (Vice President of Operations & Marketing Programs) for PetHub, the first company to launch a QR code ID tag for pets. Lorien lives her life asking, “Is what I’m doing right now helping to save more pets?” and her work at PetHub has certainly done that. In just seven years of growth, the company has significantly impacted the Return to Owner (RTO) rate in the United States. In 2010, RTO for dogs was less than 18% and under 2% for cats after being lost. Today, 96% of PetHub members’ pets are home in under 24-hours and less than 2% ever reach an animal shelter.

Managing Pain in Dogs with Dr. Ralph Harvey

Julie Buzby DVM, CAVCA, CVA July 13, 2018 2 Comments

Pain in dogs is a multifactorial issue, which includes the physical discomfort as well as the emotional stress associated with pain. In this second part of their conversation, Dr. Buzby is joined by Dr. Ralph Harvey, veteran professor in the Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences at the University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee, to discuss his wisdom and experience assessing and managing pain in dogs and the continuum of fear, anxiety, stress, and pain that we must address to be truly successful in helping painful dogs.
