From plastic eggs to rich table scraps to the dozens of chocolate delights commonly found this Easter weekend (and most holidays), Dr. Buzby details some of the many hazards we have to look out for as dog lovers and owners to help ensure a happy holiday for our four-legged family members.
What should I do if my pet is exposed to one of the hazards?
- Call your veterinarian or local emergency hospital. Save the packaging if possible, because it will help your veterinarian determine the risk to your pet.
- Call one of the pet poison control hotlines. They will instruct you on the next steps to take, either at home or by taking your pet to the nearest animal hospital.
• ASPCA Poison Control: 1-888-426-4435. There is a $65 consultation fee
