Thinking Through the Goodbye

Not giving up is a core principle of what it means to be a “Buzby” dog owner, but sometimes being the best advocate for your dog means knowing when saying goodbye is the right choice. Today’s episode is not an easy one. Talking about end of life care is always a sensitive subject, but it’s so much wiser to consider hard issues when we’re not in crisis mode. The decision to say goodbye is never an easy one, but hopefully, with a little forethough, the transition will be smoother for both you and your canine companion.

Hello, I have recently been following the Dr’s articles online …I just finished listening to her podcast on Euthanizing a beloved dog . Dec 30, 2023 I made the decision to let my 15 yr old almost “Sweet 16” Jan 26, 2024 Sweet Chloe Isabella, breed of a Daisy Dog go across the Rainbow 🌈 Bridge …I had consulted with our Vet the past few months and then weeks about her end of life . I brought her to him several times thinking it was time to help her pass , but he explained she was still engaging , looking out window in Office , taking treats and alert ! So she and I would return home I continued giving her Hospice care , observing changes in her behavior and being present for her with tenderness and love and she in return did the same for me 💕 But I saw her discomfort trying to find a place for herself . I knew from the look in her eyes it was time to release her and let her know it was OK!
She did go very peacefully in a special room with classical music playing in her bed on top of her soft blanket at our Vets, with her Dr at her side and Tech who I love since she was a puppy , and myself .
She drifted off without a sound or movement as I told her (and touched her )how much I loved her and her Dr telling her what a good dog she is …
I already had arranged to then drive her to Pet Cemetery where her grave was ready and witnessed her final resting place nearby my very first dog buried there in 1989!
I drove home sobbing as she truly was my Best friend , my “Girly Girl” forever 💕
So very very lucky for all she gave to me !

      Dear Suzie,
I am so sorry for your loss of Chloe Isabella. I know she will be dearly missed but am certain she lived a good life and knew how much she was loved. Thank you for sharing her story with us. Wishing you comfort and peace as you continue life’s journey. May her memory live on and be a blessing in your life. ♥
